How Does Shopping for a Mortgage Impact Your FICO Score?

Payment history (35%), how much you owe (30%), length of your credit history (15%), mix of credit types (10%) all have an impact your FICO score.

Additionally, the Pursuit of New Credit (10%) can affect your score. When shopping for financing for a home loan you may have your applications presented to a number of lenders in a short period of time, resulting in multiple inquires for credit. To minimize the negative impact of these requests when comparison shopping have all applications done within a two weeks of each other that way they will be treated as a single request by the credit bureaus.
